Summer Evening Backyard

I heard a noise outside in the garden. It was about 9pm in late Summer, still hot and almost dark. I walked quietly to the big trees at the back of the garden listening for the sound but none came. Being still and quiet in that part of the garden with my eyes adjusting to the light I was able to see the dusk colours more clearly. A sudden commotion at the top of the tree and a huge fruit bat flew from the branch, its massive wings thumping the air. I went back to the spot the next evening with all my painting gear and painted “Summer evening backyard.”
All paintings in this series are shadow-box mounted and in a show-wood timber frame ready for hanging or freestanding.
