With These Hands
$1,500.00
This pastel life drawing captured a friend’s husband just arrived home from his shift at an open-cut mine in the Pilbara, Western Australia. His hands represented the connection we have to the earth and the wealth we are extracting from it. The iron-rich soil of this part of the country is as iconic as the hi-viz work-shirt worn by so many men and women in the mining industry.
Life drawing is more than being able to reproduce the human form. Often it's an opportunity to represent the human condition. In this case the working hands of a man in the mining industry of the Pilbara, Western Australia. Just arrived home, still covered in the ubiquitous red earth that is worn almost as a badge by those who work in the iron ore mines.
I drew this using pastels, giving the image a homage to the real-life dust. This work is framed under glass.
